Built on world basketball principles
Baxball runs on a world-model engine — not a US-only clone. Academies, buyout transfers, local-core rules and NCAA Brain Drain are at its heart. The ProBA sits at the top; the same world engine powers club basketball everywhere.
Academies and youth development
From age 16, prospects enter the club academy, develop season by season, compete in the GAL tournament and earn a pro contract when ready. A geopolitical nationality rule (30% local, 30% US, 30% active basketball countries, 10% exotic) keeps the world authentic.
- 16-yo prospects → career sim → GAL tournament → pro contract of 1 to 4 seasons.
- Academy scholarship until age 22 (symbolic minimum); exits only via club offer, not instant release.
- US talent gets an athleticism bonus — reflects real US physical dominance in youth basketball.
Buyout transfers, not only trades
Across the world, players are bought for cash via the Transfer List with a fixed Release Clause — no need to negotiate with the owner. The ProBA is the only league with Trades, Salary Cap matching and the Ted Stepien rule. Two distinct systems in one game.
- World Release Clause — another club buys the player without negotiating with the owner.
- ProBA trades: days 1–35 and 64–68 window, salary matching ±125% + $100k, 15-player roster limit.
- Ted Stepien rule — a team cannot be without a first-round pick two years in a row.
NCAA and the Brain Drain threat
A separate college basketball (NCBA) ecosystem runs in the game. On Call-Up, Europeans can be lost to the NCAA Brain Drain — creating real risk when you trust youth blindly.
- Academy Call-Up: a 3-year pro contract worth ~0.66% of budget, with NCAA departure risk.
- College basketball (NCBA) — a real separate league, not decoration.
- The Brain Drain moment forces you to weigh when to call a prospect up to the main roster.
Local core and Home Discount
European contracts honour the Home Discount — players accept a 10% lower wage if the club is from their home country. Clubs also apply a local bid boost to domestic talent and cap the foreign core.
- Home Discount 10% — a player accepts a lower offer from a club in their own country.
- Local bid boost — clubs compete harder for domestic talent.
- Foreign core floor — imports are allowed only above a minimum OVR threshold.
