Fitness, Rotation & Injuries

How to manage minute distributions, the extreme dangers of playing through pain, and surviving double-game weeks.

Minute Budgets & Rotation Depth

FIBA games last 40 minutes (200 minutes total pool for 5 on court). Competing across two tracks makes 5-man reliance suicidal:

Short Rotation (6–7 Men)
Heavy star usage (32–36 min). The cost is paid inside each game: tired players lose accuracy and defense while injury risk climbs. Energy resets between games — there is no weekly fatigue build-up.
Deep Bench (9–10 Men)
Starters cap at 22–26 min while the bench keeps up the intensity. A deep rotation mainly protects against injuries and covers sudden absences — not “saving” legs for later series.

Injury Statuses: Knowing When to Rest

Athlete physical condition is categorized into clear tiers. Never ignore medical flags:

  • HEALTHY: Full clearance for standard target minutes.
  • PAIN (Discomfort): Eligible to suit up, but injury escalation risk multiplies drastically! Only allow it in truly decisive moments — when an entire season is on the line. Getting injured again while playing through pain can end a season or even a career.
  • INJURED / REHAB: Medically sidelined. Recovery spans days, weeks, or months depending on injury severity.

GM Rotation Best Practices

Use Presets
Leverage Star or Balanced templates to quickly calibrate total minutes.
Backup Center
Bigs absorb contact and are common injury targets — always carry a capable backup C/PF so the paint defense never empties.
Fatigue Monitoring
Set minutes by endurance (END) and watch overload warnings — past a safe load, efficiency drops and injury risk climbs.
